Johnny Depp was the definition of unrecognizable after his latest movie transformation was revealed.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is set to reunite with Penelope Cruz on the big screen in their upcoming film, Day Drinker, by director Marc Webb.

Production got underway yesterday, with new pictures emerging of the 61-year-old looking drastically different for his role as a ‘mysterious’ guest on board a private yacht.

In the pictures, he could be seen sporting a head of grey hair and a matching beard, looking menacing in a navy suit and a blue shirt.

He lent on what appeared to be a bar, clutching a drink in one hand as he ominously stared at something behind the camera.

According to reports, the thriller will see Madelyn Cline star as a bartender on a swanky boat, as she befriends a secretive guest (Johnny).

Unfortunately, they find themselves in choppy waters when they become entangled with a criminal (Penelope), and find that they are connected in unexpected ways.

‘I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and this incredible cast,’ Marc said in a statement via Entertainment Weekly.

‘We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell. This is going to be fun.’

‘Day Drinker combines a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns all set in an incredible world, and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penélope to bring that world to life,’ Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson raved.

Johnny has previously shared the screen with Penelope in 2001’s Blow, Murder on the Orient Express in 2017, and Pirates of the Caribbean sequel On Stranger Tides, in 2011.

The Lionsgate flick marks the Oscar-nominee’s first role in a film from a major distributor since his trial with ex-wife Amber Heard made headlines around the world, in 2022.

He last starred in Harry Potter prequel spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in 2018.

Since the high-profile legal battle, in which he successfully sued the Aquaman actress for defamation, he appeared in French period drama Jeanne du Barry in 2023, and directed Italian drama Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness last year.

However, the actor rejected any talk of his Hollywood ‘comeback’ in 2023, in the wake of the trial, insisting that he didn’t go anywhere.

‘I keep wondering about the word “comeback,” because I didn’t go anywhere,’ he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ‘I live about 45 minutes away from here, in fact.

‘Maybe people stopped calling … but I didn’t go nowhere.

‘Comeback is almost like I’m going to come out and do a tap dance, dance my best and hope you approve.’
