The new horror film from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was released this weekend, pitting star Michael B Jordan against a nest of bloodthirsty vampires.

Set in the 1930s Deep South, the film stars Creed actor Michael, 38, as identical twins Elijah ‘Smoke’ and Elias ‘Stack’ Moore.

Returning to their hometown after years spent living in Chicago, the brothers open up a bustling juke joint in what used to be a local sawmill.

However, as they attempt to leave their troubled past behind, the pair encounter an ancient evil that threatens to consume both the brothers and their community.

Released on April 18, the film has already generated strong word of mouth among critics and audience members alike, with many describing it as ‘the best new horror film in years.’

And this is backed up by its already-impressive Rotten Tomatoes score, boasting a 98% fresh Tomatometer rating on the review aggregator.

Cinema-goers aren’t alone in their songs of praise either, with critics gushing over Sinners’ ‘stellar’ performances, ‘delicious’ score, and ‘soulfully resonant’ filmmaking.

‘Sinners is the blood-soaked rock opera horror making vampires cool again,’ wrote Metro‘s own Tori Brazier, describing it as ‘sexy’ and ‘sensual’… as all good vampire films should be.

This contributes to a near-perfect 98% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers (almost) united with a 97% audience rating.
