The newest season of EA Sports FC 25 has kicked off with the game’s first ever paid battle pass, featuring its own exclusive rewards.

The start of 2025 saw EA do the most unexpected thing: they admitted that their latest football game, EA Sports FC 25, hadn’t been as much of a hit as expected.

Although EA didn’t share exact sales figures, EA Sports FC 25 was considered to have underperformed, with the company citing a lack of growth in its Global Football business as the chief reason for their revised targets for the fiscal year.

Three months later and EA has come up with a new way to make some extra money off players: a paid battle pass dubbed the Premium Pass.

EA Sports FC 25 already has a free season pass for unlocking extra rewards but as of today, it will feature a new premium tier that comes with its own set of exclusive unlockables.

The Premium Pass will have 40 tiers worth of additional rewards. Unlike battle passes seen in other games though, it doesn’t include any in-game currency.

However, it does come with player packs that will be tradeable, meaning you can sell them to other players in exchange for in-game currency.

How much is the Premium Pass in EA Sports FC 25?

According to EA’s blog post on the matter, EA Sports FC 25’s Premium Pass will cost you 1,000 FC Points, which works out to about £9.

FC Points can’t be earned in-game so you’d either need to buy two packs of 500 FC Points, which are £4.99 each, or a pack of 1,050 FC Points for £8.99 and have 50 left over.

Alternatively, you can acquire the Premium Pass with UT Coins, the in-game currency, meaning you’d technically be getting the pass for free. However, you need to spend a whopping 500,000 UT Coins to get it.

EA hasn’t said whether the Premium Pass will become a permanent addition to the game, and be included with future seasons, but you have to assume that will be the case, especially if it proves profitable enough.

What the company has said is that it’s open to direct feedback on the Premium Pass: ‘While our Season 7 Premium Pass rewards are locked in, we’ll be monitoring your feedback to make sure we deliver the best experience possible in whatever mode you play in FC moving forward.’

Time will tell whether this further monetisation of EA Sports FC 25 will prove successful enough for EA to warrant its inclusion in the next game.

Although EA Sports FC 26 hasn’t been formally announced yet, one detail that’s already confirmed is that it will see a full launch on Nintendo Switch 2.

For years now, Nintendo Switch owners have had to make do with pared down versions of EA’s football games, that are essentially roster updates. since they lack many of the features seen in the PlayStation and Xbox versions.

EA has confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer that Switch 2 versions of its football games will aim for parity with the PlayStation and Xbox versions, for ‘as much as the hardware allows.’
